Cone Beam CT
Cone Beam CT is a compact, faster and safer version of regular CT. Cone Beam CT uses a cone shaped X-Ray beam, and as a result the radiation dosage and time needed for scanning are all dramatically reduced. The time needed for a scan is typically around 20 seconds, and the radiation dosage is up to a hundred times less than that of a regular CT scanner. The Cone Beam CT data give detailed 3D information about the teeth, jaws and tissues. Digital orthodontic study models can be made directly from the Cone Beam CT data itself. More informative than traditional stone models, these fully interactive and dissectible Cone Beam CT digital models also include accurate root information in 3D as well as bone levels. The goal of the orthodontic treatment is not just to have straight teeth, but also to have straight roots and healthy bone levels.

Who needs Cone Beam CT?
At your consultation Dr. Van den Berg will determine if Cone Beam CT is required to accurately diagnose your case. If indicated we will refer you to a local facility to have the imaging performed. The imaging greatly facilitates communication, so you are able to make educated decisions on your course of treatment. The imaging data is easily shared with other doctors that may be involved in your care.
